Planting 2023 started

Updated: Dec 31, 2023

A woman in her 30s stands in newly plated hemp rows. The sky is hazy from rain, and a neighboring house can be seen in the distance beyond the adjoining corn field. The woman has light olive skin and medium length dark brown hair pulled back with a hair tie. She is wearing a florescent yellow rain jacket with black trim, and purple leggings with a skull print. She is standing with her arms out stretched at her waist, hands caked in mud, and head tilted toward the sky enjoying the rain. A utility cart full of hemp seedlings is beside her.

In the early morning downpour which created a haze so thick you could barley make out the neighboring buildings, with the sound of thunder overhead and clothes drenched with rain, shoes and hands weighed down and caked in the muddied clay soil I began putting plants in the ground. It created this atmosphere where all that existed in this moment was myself, the plants, and the determination to put your entire being into your passion. In the drought we have been experiencing the rain and the cleansing atmosphere it brings was desperately needed. This is the embodiment of the farmer.

A close up photo of a hemp plant being planted in wet clay soil. The farmers hands can be seen pressing soil down around the base of the plant, with fingers caked in mud. The lower part of her arms are visible and her florescent yellow rain jacket with black trim can be seen.
